The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games are recruiting volunteers from around the world. Here’s who qualifies, what roles are available, and what applicants should know before registering.
The excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup is still fresh, but if you’re already looking ahead to the next major global sporting event, now is your chance to become part of the LA 2028 Olympics.
The LA28 volunteer program is now accepting registrations from people interested in volunteering during the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Even better, you do not need to live in the United States to apply.
According to the current eligibility requirements, applicants must:
*Be at least 18 years old.
*Be able to read, write, and speak English.
*Be available to complete at least 10 volunteer shifts during the Games.
The official guidelines do not require applicants to be U.S. citizens or California residents. People from outside the United States are also encouraged to apply for the LA 2028 Olympics volunteer program.
One important detail remains unclear. Organizers have not explained whether work authorization or undocumented immigration status could affect eligibility. The FAQs also do not specify whether volunteers will need identity verification, background checks, security screening, or additional documentation to access Olympic venues.
The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games are expected to rely on about 60,000 volunteers, making it one of the largest volunteer programs in the world.
There are three ways to get involved:
*Volunteer at community events before the Games.
*Volunteer during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
*Participate in both programs.
The Olympic Games will take place from July 14 through July 30, 2028, while the Paralympic Games will run from August 15 through August 27, 2028.
During the application process, you’ll be asked about your interests, skills, and preferred volunteer assignments. Keep in mind that submitting an application does not guarantee selection. Candidates who move forward may be asked to complete a more detailed application and participate in an interview.
Volunteers are needed in many areas, including ceremonies, communications, transportation, guest services, medical support, operations, sports, and technology.
Applicants should also be prepared to provide personal information and complete a background check. Organizers may ask about previous volunteer experience, sports experience, specialized qualifications, preferred locations, and even clothing and shoe sizes. People with certain criminal convictions may not be eligible.
To qualify, volunteers must be at least 18 years old, speak, read, and write English, and be available to work 10 shifts of about eight hours each during either the Olympic or Paralympic Games. Volunteers must also be able to report in person to venues in Greater Los Angeles, Oklahoma City, New York City, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José, and San Diego.
