Villa’s powerful speech came amid a tense situation in Chicago, where an immigration operation ended tragically: the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that on September 12, 2025, an ICE agent was seriously injured during a vehicle stop when an individual identified as Silverio Villegas-González attempted to escape in his car and dragged the officer several meters.

According to the official statement, the agent fired his weapon after fearing for his life. The result was the death of Villegas-González, described by the agency as an “illegal alien with a history of reckless driving.” The DHS emphasized that attacks against federal agency personnel have multiplied in recent years, representing a 1,000% increase in assaults on officers.

State Senator Karina Villa became one of the strongest voices against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations in Illinois, following an incident that left its mark on the immigrant community in Franklin Park. With an emotionally charged speech that referenced her own family history, she denounced the current immigration policy as a “stain on the history” of the United States, while calling on her neighbors to organize and defend their rights against what she considered a constitutional violation.

The speech that stirred Franklin Park: Karina Villa against ICE

During an event held in Franklin Park, Karina Villa took the microphone and expressed the outrage of many residents at the intensification of raids. Along those lines, he noted: “It will be a stain on the history of our country, a stain on our Constitution that protects us and says we have rights, that we have the right to appear before a judge, and that we are innocent until found guilty.”
