A U.S. court announced on Thursday that Antonio Oseguera Cervantes—brother of Nemesio Oseguera, alias “El Mencho”—will plead guilty tomorrow before the U.S. justice system; he has been in custody there since February 27, 2025, following his extradition from Mexico.
The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia reported that the status hearing for Oseguera Cervantes, originally scheduled for June 18, 2026, “is converted into a Change of Plea Hearing, to be held in person on July 31, 2026, at 9:30 a.m.,” and will be presided over by Judge Beryl A. Howell.
The court further ordered that, pursuant to the Speedy Trial Act, “the period between June 18, 2026, and July 31, 2026, shall be excluded from the computation of time limits (…), determining that the interests of justice served by suspending the statutory time limit until the next hearing outweigh the interests of both the public and the defendant.”
Oseguera Cervantes, known as “Tony Montana,” was taken into U.S. custody after the Mexican government handed him over—along with 28 other Mexican nationals, including Rafael Caro Quintero (founder of the Guadalajara and Caborca cartels)—to face charges in the United States related to organized crime, drug trafficking, homicide, illegal firearms use, money laundering, and other offenses.
