Fernando de Jesús Ortiz Ávalos—alias “El Doctor” and an alleged operative for the “Los Viagras” group in Michoacán—was arrested on Tuesday, July 14, by Federal Ministerial Police agents in the town of Acahuato, in the municipality of Apatzingán. He was wanted by U.S. authorities for international drug trafficking, with a reward of up to $5 million USD offered for his capture.
According to the arrest record published in the National Detention Registry (RND), the arrest took place at 5:35 PM on a sports court in the community of Santiago Acahuato. This location lies within the area historically influenced by Los Viagras and serves as a stronghold for the “Cártel de la Virgen,” a cell led by Ricardo Madrigal, alias “El Barbas.” At the time of his arrest, authorities seized a long gun, a rifle magazine containing live ammunition, and a plastic bag holding four packets of methamphetamine.
Ortiz Ávalos, 36, is identified as an operative for Los Viagras and a close associate of the leadership structure headed by the Sierra Santana brothers. His significance within the organization is reportedly linked to the group’s joint operations and drug trafficking activities.
