Julio Meza, the former director of the Michoacán Attorney General’s Office Investigative Police, was executed by hitmen Thursday night in Morelia, the capital of Michoacán. The former official held the position during the administration of former Attorney General Adrián López Solís.

The incident occurred near a taco stand located on Acueducto Avenue. According to initial police reports, armed men arrived at the location and carried out a direct attack against the victim, killing him instantly.

The armed attack immediately triggered a large-scale mobilization of public security forces from all three levels of government, as well as emergency services, who confirmed the death of the former police commander. Preventive police officers cordoned off and secured the perimeter to preserve the crime scene, allowing forensic experts and agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to enter. Specialized personnel collected the corresponding ballistic evidence and opened an investigation to clarify the facts.

To date, authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with this homicide, nor have they determined an official line of investigation or motive for the killing. The body was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for the legally required autopsy.
