The Sinaloa Cartel has controlled drug trafficking in the northern state of Sinaloa for several years. However, that could soon change, and a drug kingpin who currently has a presence in several Sinaloa municipalities could seize control of drug trafficking and other crimes in the state.

This is according to journalist and writer Jesús Lemus, who specializes in drug trafficking and organized crime, in an episode of the podcast Narco Mundo, in which he collaborates with fellow journalist and writer José Luis Montenegro.

This comes after the seizure of a property in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, where 25,000 liters of liquid methamphetamine were confiscated. This is considered the largest seizure of its kind during the current administration and the second largest in the country’s history, representing an economic blow to organized crime of more than 9 billion pesos.

This seizure points to a criminal who controls the area. He is Fausto Isidro Meza Flores, known as El Chapo Isidro, leader of the so-called Guasave Cartel, who dominates criminal operations in Ahome, but also has influence in Guasave, Choix, El Fuerte, Angostura, and even Culiacán.

According to journalists, El Chapo Isidro, who is engaged in a territorial dispute with Los Chapitos and has allied himself with Los Mayoz, has grown stronger since the capture of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in the United States in 2024. Furthermore, he has been a ruthless enemy of Los Chapitos and a feared partner of La Mayiza.
