Servando Gómez Martínez, the former leader and founder of La Familia Michoacana, succeeded in postponing a hearing scheduled in New York, United States.

“La Tuta”—as the man is known—had a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, but following an agreement between the parties, Judge John Koeltl set a new date.

As a result of this decision, the new date is September 16. Court documents indicate that the prosecution and Gómez Martínez’s lawyers requested more time to continue preparing the case.

Thomas Ambrosio serves as La Tuta’s attorney. The former criminal leader was extradited by Mexico to U.S. authorities in August 2025, alongside 25 other individuals.

Authorities announced the capture of Servando Gómez Martínez in Morelia, Michoacán, in February 2015. The Mexican government highlighted the arrest as one of the most significant achievements in the effort to combat organized crime.
