Personnel from the National Guard and the State of Mexico’s Secretariat of Security located two clandestine graves yesterday afternoon, Wednesday, in the Valle de Los Venados area within the La Marquesa zone, located in the municipality of Ocoyoacac.

Four bodies were found in the graves; according to the state Attorney General’s Office, they belong to foreign nationals who had been reported missing since May 20.
Among the victims are the couple Zafar Padamsee Mawani and Guillermo Jafett Hidalgo Ortiz, who were the subjects of missing persons alerts and had been reported missing since late May.

Both were U.S. nationals living in Huixquilucan, but on May 20, they had gone to a neighborhood in the Tlalpan borough to finalize a business deal. They were not seen again after that.

Media reports indicate that the day after their disappearance, unusual activity and transfers were recorded in both individuals’ bank accounts—a matter currently under investigation by the authorities.

The graves were located just a few meters from cabins that local community members rent out in La Marquesa by the day or hour.
According to the state Attorney General’s Office, the bodies were buried at a depth of less than one meter.

Two additional bodies—belonging to Kenyan nationals whose identities have not yet been revealed—were found in another of the graves.

The site remains under guard by authorities, and the State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine what happened and to identify who had rented the cabins in recent weeks.
