Officers from the Sinaloa State Preventive Police arrested two gunmen after repelling a direct attack in the rural area of the Mazatlán municipality. The operation resulted in the seizure of a stolen vehicle, tactical gear, doses of narcotics, and six assault rifles.
The incident took place near the town of Lomas de Monterrey. State agents were conducting preventive patrols when they spotted a suspicious pickup truck. Upon noticing the approaching patrol vehicles, the occupants opened fire on the officers.
In response to the aggression, the police returned fire and initiated a pursuit that lasted several minutes along local roads. The operation concluded when patrol units cut off the path of an SUV. Once the situation was brought under control, the officers subdued and arrested two of the gunmen at the scene.
Support protocols were immediately activated involving the Inter-institutional Group, which comprises law enforcement agencies from all three levels of government. Federal and state forces established a search perimeter to locate the remaining members of the criminal group, who had managed to escape on foot across the terrain during the shootout. Authorities reported that the situation was brought under control with no injuries sustained by the officers.
Following a technical inspection of the vehicle and the scene of the confrontation, state police personnel inventoried the following seized weaponry and illicit items:
Six AK-47 assault rifles (7.62 x 39mm caliber).
Thirty-six fully loaded magazines for the same caliber.
Four tactical vests.
Twelve doses of a powdered substance with the physical characteristics of cocaine. A 2026 Mazda CX-50 SUV that had an active report of theft.
The two detainees, along with the firearms, ammunition, tactical gear, drugs, and the seized vehicle, were transported under security to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR). Everything was placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office, the authority responsible for conducting the relevant investigations, opening the case file, and determining the legal status of those involved.
