Omar Chávez, son of former world champion Julio César Chávez, was arrested this Wednesday, May 20, at the Aguaruto Penitentiary Center in Culiacán, Sinaloa. It wasn’t a police operation that landed him there: it was a court hearing he attended himself.

The arrest was recorded in the National Registry of Detentions at 8:53 a.m. The court’s procedural police handed him over to officers of the State Preventive Police, who immediately transferred him to the prison. Although the reason for his arrest was initially unknown, it began to leak hours later.

According to sources such as Línea Directa, Los Noticieristas, and journalist Luis Chaparro, the boxer was detained at the Central Criminal Court in Aguaruto on charges of domestic violence and assault, after allegedly attacking his partner.

According to sources consulted by Los Noticieristas, the next hearing is scheduled for Monday, May 25, when the judge will determine whether he remains in prison or can continue his legal proceedings while free.
