Two 17-year-old teenagers were murdered in neighborhoods in northern Culiacán in less than 48 hours, and in both scenes, the same object was found: a pink stuffed pig discarded next to blood and shell casings.
This pattern is already causing concern in a city that has spent years learning to decipher the messages left by organized crime. In 2019, five bodies were found in Culiacán with toy cars attached to their bodies, presumably as a sign that the victims were car thieves. Since September 2014, with the war between Los Chapitos and La Mayiza, the symbols have multiplied: pizzas and sombreros as signatures. The pink pig seems to follow the same logic, although no one has officially confirmed it yet.
The first murder occurred on Friday, May 15, in the Infonavit Solidaridad neighborhood. Carlos René, 17, was walking near Helbert Boulevard when he was intercepted by armed men who shot him repeatedly.
The teenager died at the scene. Next to his body, forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) found a pink stuffed pig with characteristics almost identical to one found two days later. Initially, it was even suggested that the young man was on his way to visit his girlfriend, given that he was carrying the stuffed pig.
