News of the murder of former beauty queen Carolina Flores Gómez has brought to light several details that, now that the crime is a tragic reality, take on a different resonance. What did the young woman mean in one of her final social media posts?

In a TikTok posted on April 4, the 27-year-old Mexican woman wrote, “Was this what I was so afraid of?” over a video of herself with her husband and their baby.

The comments are chilling: “You should have listened to your fear,” “Now the fear makes sense,” and “Her fear became reality” are just a few of the phrases that appeared beneath a clip that has already been viewed more than 250,000 times.

Carolina Flores’s murder took place on April 15; however, the footage only surfaced in recent hours after being shared by journalist Carlos Jiménez on his social media channels.

Based on what can be seen and heard in the video, it was allegedly her mother-in-law, Erika Herrera, who shot and killed her. The footage captures the moment Flores runs out, followed by the other woman, who is holding a pistol. Then several gunshots and screams are heard. The camera frame shows only a baby crib and toys in the foreground, along with a dog running frantically.

After several shots ring out, Alejandro—Carolina’s partner and Erika’s son—appears on camera holding the baby and asking, “What was that?” “What did you do, Mom?” he asks upon coming across the scene. “Nothing; she made me angry,” the mother replies.

An investigative file for intentional homicide—classified under the femicide protocol—has been open since April 16, following the formal complaint filed one day after the crime occurred.

Erika Herrera is listed as the alleged perpetrator of the attack. Carolina’s mother, Reyna Gómez Molina, told the Univision network that it was Alejandro himself who notified her of the death—one day after the events took place—and explained that he had waited in order to care for the eight-month-old baby.
