The Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is undergoing a reconfiguration of its leadership with the arrival of Juan Carlos Valencia González, “El 03,” designated as its new leader. His rise cannot be understood without considering the influence of the criminal clans that shaped his criminal upbringing and his ascension to the position.
Following the fall of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho,” his stepson “El 03” has become the focus of international alerts as a top target for the United States, which is offering a reward of up to five million dollars for information leading to his capture.
The rise of “El 03” can be explained by the convergence of three factors within the CJNG: his father’s lineage, linked to the Milenio Cartel; the financial network of Los Cuinis, headed by the González Valencia family; and the armed structure consolidated by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes.
