On Wednesday afternoon, Carlota āNā left the Chalco prison to face her criminal proceedings under house arrest.
The 74-year-old woman emerged visibly emotional.
When approached by the media, she stated that the events of April 1, 2025, when she shot three peopleātwo of whom died and one was woundedāfor trespassing on her family’s property in the Ex Hacienda de Guadalupe subdivision in the community of La Candelaria Tlapala, Chalco, were a bad moment and an act of self-defense.
Her release is not an acquittal: the trial for the double homicide that occurred in April 2025 will continue, but from her home and under judicial supervision. That day, in the Ex Hacienda de Guadalupe Housing Unit, in Chalco, according to the version of the defense and relatives, Carlota āNā, along with her children Eduardo and Mariana, confronted a group of people who supposedly tried to dispossess them of a family property.
