Mexico and Portugal played to a goalless draw in the inaugural match at the renovated Mexico City Stadium—a friendly tune-up ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The match, which marked the Mexican National Team’s return to the iconic venue after nearly two and a half years, was characterized by balanced possession and few clear-cut scoring opportunities.

In the closing stages of the game, both teams pushed to break the deadlock. Mexican goalkeeper Tala Rangel made a crucial save in stoppage time to prevent his goal from being breached.

On the Mexican side, “Hormiga” González came close to scoring with a header but was unable to convert the chance.

Portugal played the match without Cristiano Ronaldo, who was sidelined due to a muscle injury; they sought victory with an attacking approach but lacked clinical finishing in the opposition’s penalty area.
