A federal court in New York rescheduled the hearing in the case against Naasón Joaquín García, leader of the La Luz del Mundo church, for Tuesday, March 10. He faces federal charges along with his mother, Eva García de Joaquín, and his nephew, Joram Núñez Joaquín, as part of an investigation into alleged organized crime and sex trafficking.

The status control hearing, initially scheduled for March 12, was moved up by Federal Judge Loretta A. Preska and will take place at 11:00 a.m. (local time) in the Manhattan federal court.

The court file indicates that the three are part of a criminal network called “the Joaquín LLDM Enterprise,” which allegedly operated for decades both within and outside the United States.

According to the prosecution, this structure used doctrinal apparatus, social control, and the threat of religious exclusion to subdue victims, destroy evidence, and manipulate witnesses after Naasón Joaquín’s arrest in 2019.
