Javier Milei in New York: “I am the most Zionist president in the world”

Javier Milei is resorting to increasingly extreme tactics to demonstrate his unconditional alignment with the United States and Israel. “I am proud to be the most Zionist president in the world,” he declared this Monday at Yeshiva University in New York, amidst the escalating conflict in the Middle East. True to form, he undermined the neutral stance that has historically prevailed in Argentina regarding major foreign conflicts, and did not hesitate to explicitly align himself with the side that initiated the aggression on February 28, stating: “We are going to win,” “we are enemies of Iran.”

Milei is currently visiting the United States, where he has traveled more than 15 times in his two-plus years in office, a number that far exceeds his trips to other countries, even neighboring ones. On this occasion, he participated in the allies summit convened by Donald Trump at his golf club in Miami, dubbed Shield of the Americas, where he delivered his presentation in very broken English.

Just a few weeks earlier, he had arrived in Washington to join the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council. Any invitation extended to him by the Republican is received with enthusiasm by the far-right politician, even those that promise little more than a brief encounter backstage or a photo opportunity. After his stay in Miami, Milei departed for New York, where he began his activities with another visit to the tomb of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson—known as the “Lubavitch Rebbe”—in Montefiore Cemetery. Milei, who has embraced Judaism in adulthood, also announced that he will visit Tel Aviv at the end of April to participate in the Independence Day celebrations. His schedule, as far as has been reported, has not been altered by the escalating conflict.
