The Cuban Border Guard Troops killed four crew members of a U.S. speedboat on Wednesday after it failed to stop when ordered to do so in territorial waters and opened fire on the police vessel, the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) reported.
The statement also indicated that six other people on the speedboat were wounded, as well as “the commander of the Cuban vessel,” which had a total of five people on board. All the wounded “were evacuated and received medical assistance.”
The ministry did not provide information on the identities or possible motives of those on the speedboat. The incident occurred off Falcones Cay, in Villa Clara province (central Cuba). The boat, the ministry reported, “approached within one nautical mile northeast of the El Pino channel, on Falcones Cay, Corralillo municipality, Villa Clara province,” in Cuban territorial waters.
