In recent hours, the name Chuponcito became a trending topic on social media, generating confusion and alarm among thousands of users who came to believe that the famous Mexican television clown had died.
However, it was all due to a regrettable case of mistaken identity caused by a violent incident unrelated to the comedian.
The rumor originated in the early hours of Sunday, January 25, 2026, when authorities reported an armed attack against a man known by the nickname “Chuponcito.”
According to police reports, the victim was shot and his home was subsequently set on fire. The man suffered burns over much of his body and, despite being taken to a hospital, died hours later due to the severity of his injuries.
The coincidence of the nickname was enough for the information to spread rapidly on platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Within minutes, many users mistakenly assumed it was the popular clown, sparking a wave of condolence messages, speculation, and questions about his supposed death.
Amid the growing commotion, the comedian’s own activity on social media was key to clarifying the situation. Although Chuponcito didn’t issue an official statement or address the issue directly, he continued posting content regularly on his Instagram account.
In recent videos, he appears relaxed, in good spirits, and making jokes, which was enough to dispel the rumors circulating about his death.
