Warner Bros. Pictures Animation announced that Speedy Gonzales will return to theaters in a film directed by Mexican filmmaker Jorge R. Gutiérrez, creator of “The Book of Life” and “Maya and the Three.” The production aims to refresh the iconic Looney Tunes character to connect with contemporary audiences.
The story will portray Speedy as a cunning hero who protects the most vulnerable, maintaining his characteristic speed and charisma. The narrative will combine humor, action, and Mexican cultural references, reinterpreting the character without losing his original essence.
With this new approach, the studio intends to balance nostalgia and modernity, ensuring that both those who grew up with Speedy and new generations can enjoy his adventures in a contemporary context.
Mexican director Jorge R. Gutiérrez leads the film, accompanied by an international team of screenwriters specializing in Latin culture, which, according to outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter, will guarantee authenticity in the story and character design.
