President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo reiterated this Saturday that Mexico will not be subordinate to the United States, while also asserting that “the independence and sovereignty of the nation” are not up for negotiation.

During an event held in Petatlán, Guerrero, the Mexican president emphasized that her government’s relationship with the Donald Trump administration is based on dialogue, collaboration, and coordination, without subordination, adding that “we are two equal countries.”

“We always say that when we engage in dialogue with any country in the world, and particularly with the United States, we can collaborate, we can coordinate, we are neighbors […] as I have said, we coordinate, we collaborate, but we never subordinate ourselves; we are two equal countries. And we talk, we negotiate, we work, but there is something that is not up for negotiation: and that is the independence and sovereignty of the nation,” she stated.
