Joaquín Guzmán López, alias El Güero, pleaded guilty to drug trafficking and money laundering charges before US authorities. With this plea, the man accused of leading, along with his brothers, the Los Chapitos faction also secured a cooperation agreement.
In his guilty plea, Guzmán López admitted to committing international kidnapping. El Güero is one of the sons of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, the latter being the founder of the Sinaloa Cartel along with Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada.
While El Chapo is imprisoned in a maximum-security prison in the United States, El Mayo was kidnapped in Sinaloa and taken against his will to the US.
