The head of the General Secretariat of the Government of the State of Mexico, Horacio Duarte Olivares, reported that there is still no confirmation that the two people murdered on Monday, December 1st, in Plaza Arkana in Cuautitlán Izcalli, are related to the founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, Rafael Caro Quintero.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, MILENIO reported the deaths of two men who were in a laundromat inside the plaza located in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, where emergency services from the State of Mexico were dispatched.

According to journalist and host of the program C4 en Alerta, Carlos Jiménez, the victims were Emilio Quintero, 31 years old, originally from Culiacán, Sinaloa; and Juan Pablo Quintero, 21 years old, from Guadalajara, who received approximately 40 gunshot wounds.

However, Horacio Duarte denied it: “There is no confirmation of a blood relationship with the criminal element. It is a very regrettable event. It clearly has a modus operandi; they were going to look for them, but the prosecutor’s office is conducting the investigation,” he said in an interview after attending the first government report of the mayor of Lerma, Miguel Ángel Ramírez Ponce.

According to initial reports, armed individuals stormed the shopping center and began shooting at people inside the laundromat.

After the attack, two people were found lying inside the establishment, without vital signs, while two others were wounded.

Civil Protection and fire department personnel arrived at the scene and attended to the injured, however, they were already dead. The area was cordoned off pending forensic services, and so far no arrests have been made.

The site of the incident remains secured. However, the rest of the plaza continued operating normally, and people can enter regularly through the various entrances.

According to information from C4 Jiménez, three suspected hitmen opened fire on the victims. In addition, authorities in the State of Mexico discovered an abandoned car, presumably linked to the crime, with license plates from Guadalajara.
