President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Jesús María Tarriba Unger, a Mexican physicist, celebrated their second wedding anniversary this November.
What for many is a dream or a story straight out of a movie, for Sheinbaum and Tarriba became a reality. When the mayor was studying physics at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), she met the man who would later become her husband.
In “Claudia: The Documentary,” an audiovisual piece where the mayor recounts aspects of her life, both professional and personal, Sheinbaum explains that they were a couple when they were students. “Then we stopped dating, we each went our separate ways, and then we reconnected.”
When they reconnected, they did so through Facebook, at a significant moment for both of them, as they had recently divorced.
