“The Divo” Returns to the Zócalo; More Than 170,000 People Sing “Amor Eterno” to Juan Gabriel

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada reported that approximately 170,000 people attended the Zócalo in the capital to watch a screening of Juan Gabriel’s concert at the Palace of Fine Arts.

Through her social media accounts, the mayor stated that it was an “unforgettable night” and thanked Netflix for its support of the event. She also reiterated that access to culture is a right for all citizens.

“170,000 people experienced an unforgettable night remembering Juan Gabriel at the Palace of Fine Arts, thanks to the support of Netflix. We danced, sang, and celebrated together, because in the Capital of Transformation, culture is a right and is lived in public spaces, open to everyone.”

Last night, hundreds of thousands of people flocked to Mexico City’s Zócalo to enjoy a free screening of Juan Gabriel’s historic 1990 concert at the Palace of Fine Arts. Organized by the Mexico City Ministry of Culture and Netflix, the event included never-before-seen footage from the Divo de Juárez’s personal archive and served as a massive tribute to the legacy of one of the greatest icons of Mexican music.
