Swedish activist Greta Thunberg was detained by Israeli forces after attempting to enter Gaza on a humanitarian aid flotilla, sparking global reactions.

Approximately 40 boats, carrying more than 400 international activists, including politicians, lawyers, and citizens of various nations, were intercepted by the Israeli Navy.

A video shared by Israel showed the arrest of Greta Thunberg with activists on an aid flotilla bound for Gaza.

Israeli ships approached the boats as they sailed in international waters at night, spraying some with water cannons and flashing lights before Israeli forces boarded them and detained the activists. Some of the flotilla’s ships managed to maintain live broadcasts on social media accounts during the interception.

The activists were surrounded by Israeli soldiers, while they remained on the ground with their hands raised, visibly fearful but not resisting as they were detained.

Organizers said approximately 443 participants were arrested. Among them were Thunberg, Colau, Mandela, and European Parliament member Rima Hassan.
