The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJ-CDMX) announced it has launched an investigation into the crimes of aggravated homicide and intentional injuries, stemming from the events that occurred this afternoon inside the College of Sciences and Humanities, South Campus (CCH Sur), located in the Coyoacán borough, which is part of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) system.

According to preliminary investigations, around 1:00 p.m., a student identified as 19-year-old Lex Ashton attacked 16-year-old Jesús Israel with a knife. He sadly died in the school’s parking lot. During an attempt to restrain the attacker, 65-year-old administrative worker Armando was injured and was taken to a hospital for medical attention.

The perpetrator, who was wearing a hood at the time of the incident, attempted to flee. When he realized he was being followed, he climbed a building on the campus and jumped out to escape, resulting in fractures to both legs. He was taken to a hospital, where he currently remains in the custody of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).

Educational authorities responded to the emergency inside the building and subsequently handed the killer over to SSC officers, who brought him before this Prosecutor’s Office.

The Federal Police of Mexico City (FGJCDMX), in close collaboration with the SSC, is conducting the corresponding ministerial, police, and forensic investigations to clarify what happened and guarantee access to justice for the victims and their families. An hour before the attack at the Colegio de Ciencias y Humanidades (CCH) Sur in the Coyoacán borough, a young man identified as 19-year-old Lex Ashton shared a series of images on his personal Facebook account that drew attention due to their content.

In these posts, he appears dressed entirely in black, with a balaclava resembling a skeleton, dark gloves, and goggles. He is also seen carrying two tactical knives, four firecrackers, and a metal scythe, identified as the object he allegedly used to attack a 16-year-old student.

“Scum has a mission to pick up the trash”: the message from the CCH Sur attacker

The young man was also wearing a sweatshirt with the word “Bloodbath,” which means “bloodbath” in Spanish. Along with the images, he wrote a message that read: “Scum, like me, has a mission to pick up the trash.”

The photographs show the young man posing with the balaclava and goggles, items that match the clothing worn at the time of the attack inside the school, located in the Jardines del Pedregal neighborhood.

The attacker currently remains in a hospital under the protection of the Secretariat of Citizen Security.
