Jorge Eleazar Galván García, known as “El Potrillo,” and former mayor of Burgos, Tamaulipas, was murdered on Saturday, September 20, 2025.

The incident occurred in the La Colmena ejido, a rural community near the municipality of Méndez.

The former mayor was allegedly attacked by armed individuals traveling in a white vehicle.

Galván García was mayor of Burgos for the PAN (National Action Party) for two terms, from 2018 to 2022 and from 2021 to 2024.
At that moment, he was shot in the head, killing him instantly.

The National Action Party (PAN) of Tamaulipas confirmed the crime and strongly condemned the events.

In a statement, Luis René Cantú, president of the party’s state committee, demanded that authorities clarify the murder and called for “working with facts” to ensure justice.

The PAN described Galván García as “a man of work and constant struggle for Burgos and Tamaulipas.”

The Tamaulipas Security Spokesperson’s Office issued a brief statement confirming the discovery of a man killed by a gunshot wound in the Lázaro Cárdenas community, but initially withheld the victim’s identity.

The investigation is ongoing, although no details have been provided regarding possible suspects or motives for the crime.

The crime occurred in an area where a spiral of violence has been observed for the past two years due to the struggle between criminal groups, such as the Gulf Cartel and the old-school Zetas cartel, supported by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
