The municipality of Uruapan, Michoacán, is facing a new escalation of violence following the armed attack that claimed the life of a Municipal Police officer on the night of September 14. This led Mayor Carlos Manzo to order the cancellation of the Grito de Independencia and the September 16 civic-military parade due to the lack of security conditions for the population.

In addition, the mayor publicly called on Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to intervene with state force.

According to reports, the attack occurred around 9:30 p.m. at a checkpoint located on Industrial Boulevard, in front of the Pemex plant, when armed individuals opened fire on municipal officers, leaving one police officer dead.
