Misael Cano Rodríguez

At the time of the explosion, the 36-year-old man was traveling with his 17- and 2-year-old children. The flames reached his car.

Cano Rodríguez suffered burns over 90% of his body. Although he arrived alive at the National Center for Burn Research and Care of the National Rehabilitation Institute in Tlalpan, he died in the early hours of Thursday, September 11.

The Iztapalapa mayor’s office reported that Misael Cano Rodríguez was a worker in the Urban Image district. He was identified by his family by a tattoo on his right arm with the name of his 17-year-old daughter, who is also hospitalized and is reported to be in critical condition after being induced into a coma.

Misael’s other son, almost two years old, is also in critical condition at the Tacubaya Maternal and Child Hospital. The child is expected to be taken to Texas for better care.

Misael’s niece, who was also an enforcement driver, reported the man’s death on social media after hours of searching.

“Thank you very much to everyone who helped us spread the word about my uncle Misael Cano. We have finally located him.

Unfortunately, he passed away,” wrote Paola Cano.
