“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports that after providing follow-up, assistance, and consular protection to Jesús Muñoz Gutiérrez, he arrived in Mexico City this afternoon from Juba, the capital of South Sudan. The Mexican national was arbitrarily deported from the United States to that country on May 20, after completing a 25-year sentence,” it said.

It detailed that on September 5, the Mexican ambassador to Ethiopia, Alejandro Estivil, traveled to that city to personally receive him and initiate his repatriation to Mexico.

“During these months, the Embassy, in coordination with the General Directorate of Consular Protection and Strategic Planning and the General Directorate of Africa and the Middle East, maintained high-level communication with South Sudan to ensure that Muñoz Gutiérrez was safe and in good health and to monitor his immigration status.
