Considering that crime in Washington, D.C., is higher than in “the worst places” in the world, President Donald Trump took control of the city’s police force and ordered the deployment of the National Guard to the United States capital.
“Today is Liberation Day in Washington, D.C., and we are going to take back our capital,” President Trump stated at a White House press conference. “We will take it back under the authority vested in me as President of the United States. I officially invoke Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act—you know what that is—and place the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control.”
The President appointed current DEA Director Terrance Cole as the acting commissioner of the Washington, D.C., police force.
