Fellow Mexicans and Latinos persecuted by Trump want to live in this Mexican city; this is what the interactions of Americans who want to settle in Mexico reveal.
San Miguel de Allende, another popular destination, is considered overcrowded. Mexico City is a point where a feeling of rejection of gentrification is beginning to emerge.
Therefore, many foreign residents are hesitant to recommend Mérida as a destination city, even though it is safe from the problems of foreign immigration in Mexico.
“You have everything!” says one internet user. A beautiful, accessible city, beaches, archaeological ruins, and good transportation services. There’s also no alarming violence.
Real estate agents from Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, and Mérida revealed that there is growing interest from both the Latino community and fellow citizens in the United States in acquiring properties and residing in the Yucatecan capital, where, they affirmed, the real estate market continues to boom.
Nicole Álvarez and Jaime González Duarte, president and member of the Mexican Association of Real Estate Professionals (AMPI), explained that despite the decrease in demand for real estate in recent years in the country, overpricing and oversupply persist in Mérida, which, they acknowledged, are factors of gentrification.
In a press conference, they stated that there are increasingly more interested clients of Latin American origin and fellow citizens residing in various cities in the United States, who, influenced by President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, prefer to relocate to Mexico. a safer passage through the country and specifically prefer the Yucatecan capital.
They acknowledged that there is a dynamism in the real estate market in the central and northern areas of Mérida, specifically in the areas of Cholul and Temozón, as well as the Historic Center of Mérida, with above-average prices that have forced the displacement of families and communities.
Many of the houses are remodeled and built with two to three bedrooms, fully furnished, with a pool and fully decorated, and have reached values of 10 to 12 million pesos, they reported.
Among the foreign buyers, they mentioned that the main clients are of American origin (70 percent), Canadian (20 percent), and the remainder from Europe and South America.
In terms of age, they mentioned that the main groups of potential clients are over 30 years of age with families and adults over 60, the so-called American bloomers.
