Mexican Ana Amelí remains missing; she was hiking in the Ajusco region

Two weeks after Ana Amelí García disappeared, search efforts continued yesterday in Ajusco, where efforts were reinforced with the addition of additional personnel.

Attendees included agents from the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the Rescue and Emergency Medical Squad (ERUM), the Natural Resources and Rural Development Commission (Corena), the Investigative Police (PDI), the Ministry of Citizen Security, and the National Search Commission.

The Una Luz en el Camino collective, which participated in the search, had previously alerted authorities about an unexplored trail where the young woman may have descended. The search focused on that area, focusing on locating clothing and skeletal remains.

During the operation, Vanesa Gámez, Ana Amelí’s mother, was accompanied. She emphasized that this day was not only for her daughter, but also for other missing persons.

At the end, she expressed her dismay at the lack of concrete clues and shared the feelings of other mothers who accompanied her, many of whom have been searching for their loved ones for years.

The group pointed out that the lack of guarantees of non-repetition has made these searches necessary, as security in the area has not been improved.

Gámez called on the public to immediately report disappearances so that the Semefos (Ministry of Emergency Situations) and hospitals can update their databases and facilitate the identification of individuals.
