Viola Davis, the Oscar-winning American actress and human rights activist, recognized Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s leadership on social media this Monday for sending aid after the floods in Texas.
“The President of Mexico just sent rescue teams to Texas. After all the hate. After all the anti-immigrant policies. After all the racism toward people of color. She still helped. She still showed up. She still did the right thing. For a red state that wouldn’t do the same for her. That’s leadership. That’s power. That’s a woman,” the philanthropist and film producer wrote.
“Much respect, Madam President,” added Davis, who is known for her anti-Trump stance, even before the current US President’s first term in the White House.
“That’s the people of Mexico, that’s our culture. We Mexicans are supportive, fraternal, always. And what this reflects, with firefighters who go out and risk their lives, as they did in California, to save others, is the essence of the Mexican people: Humanism,” responded President Sheinbaum.
Viola Davis’s post comes after Sheinbaum reported this morning that the Mexican Consulate in San Antonio, Texas, has provided care and support to Mexicans affected by the flooding caused by the Guadalupe River, which has claimed the lives of at least 91 people.
