Days after her murder, influencer Valeria Márquez reappeared on TikTok. Not through tributes or compilations, but through live streams from a new account that used videos she recorded before her death.
The incident has sparked a wave of confusion, speculation, and debate about who was behind the account, which on May 25 had 19,000 followers and, after the live stream, reached more than 180,000 followers. The live video even reached 190,000 simultaneous viewers.
During the live stream, old clips of Valeria speaking naturally, as she usually did with her followers, appeared. The scene provoked a mixture of surprise and confusion: thousands of users wrote questions in the comments like “Are you alive?”, unsure if it was a real broadcast, an edited video, or a rebroadcast.
The profile is unverified and presents itself as an “official account.” During the broadcast, virtual gifts and super chats were received, meaning real financial income was generated from the murdered influencer’s image, leading many to wonder who was behind the exploitation of her image.
