Amid an unprecedented bilateral offensive against organized crime groups, Inés Coronel Barreras and her son, Inés Omar Coronel Aispuro, Emma Coronel Aispuro’s father and brother, obtained a provisional suspension after filing indirect amparo lawsuits to avoid being arrested and transferred to the United States, a country that accuses them of their alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.

The judicial measure follows the handover of 29 Mexican drug traffickers to US authorities on February 27, 2025. The context has also been reinforced by reports from various journalists warning of a second list of potential drug traffickers who could be transferred to the US, consisting of at least 40 priority targets, including the relatives of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s wife.

According to a report by journalist Luis Carlos Sáinz in the weekly Zeta Tijuana, the former beauty queen’s father and brother filed indirect amparo lawsuits before a District Judge of the Twelfth Circuit.
