From being the most wanted drug lord by the United States government, “El Chapo” now has most of his family living in that country. His ex-wife, daughters and sons, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, and even sons-in-law moved voluntarily to the United States, allegedly due to an agreement reached by Ovidio Guzmán López, son of “El Chapo,” who has also been imprisoned in the United States since 2023.
Images have circulated on social media showing the exact moment the relatives of the former Sinaloa Cartel leader crossed into the United States, where they were allegedly awaited by authorities in that country, in response to a request by Ovidio, also known as “El Ratón,” to relocate his family to the United States for permanent residency.
It was journalist Luis Chaparro who revealed details of the transfer of the relatives of JoaquÃn Guzmán Loera, “El Chapo” Guzmán, who is serving a life sentence in a maximum-security US prison. Chaparro stated that last Friday, May 9, 17 of the drug trafficker’s relatives surrendered to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Among those who allegedly surrendered is Griselda López Pérez, “El Chapo’s” ex-wife and mother of Ovidio Guzmán López and JoaquÃn Guzmán López. Also present are a daughter of the former Sinaloa Cartel leader, identified as Griselda Guzmán López, her husband; a grandson of Guzmán Loera, identified as Archivaldo; as well as “uncles, cousins, etc.,” Chaparro said in an interview with journalist Pascal Beltran del RÃo.
This delivery is allegedly part of the negotiations between Ovidio, also known as “El Ratón,” who a week ago filed a document with the Chicago court after it was reported that “El Chapo’s” son was willing to plead guilty, in a kind of cooperation agreement he had reached with U.S. authorities.
On May 6, it was announced that “El Ratón,” 35, will plead guilty on July 9, 2025, when he appears in person before Judge Sharon Johnson Coleman of the Federal District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago. This comes after the hearing scheduled for May 12, 2025, was canceled.
