After Baja California Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda reported that the United States revoked her and her husband’s visas, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said she had not received any notification from the United States government about the visa revocation, so she will request information.
“Yesterday we learned about it from the statement issued by the governor herself, and we will wait to receive the information; we will not get ahead of ourselves,” she said.
“Do you have any knowledge of whether there is an investigation against the governor?” she was asked.
“Not the reasons. Information will be requested now to find out the reasons why these visas are being revoked. So, let’s not get ahead of ourselves; we will wait for the information, and we were not notified,” she stated.
When asked if there are other cases of visa revocations for governors, Sheinbaum stated that they have not been notified of any cases and “it is important to maintain the coordination and collaboration that has always existed.”
“So, we will wait for the information before issuing any communication. We will wait for the information on why these visas were revoked. And all these articles that have come out about us already being informed, nothing, we weren’t informed, and the United States government has to inform and inform the Mexican government. So, we will wait.”
“How do you interpret this action, President?” She responded: “We will wait because we don’t know the cause.”
