Ovidio Guzmán López, son of drug trafficker Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, will plead guilty to various charges before a federal judge in Chicago, United States, on July 9th at a hearing, following the announcement that he had reached an agreement with US prosecutors.
Furthermore, the deal may involve some prior or future commitment for Ovidio to be a witness in other cases, as his brother, Joaquín Guzmán López, alias “El Güero,” is also seeking a plea deal in the Chicago court.
Following the announcement that the parties have reached an agreement, a judicial notice filed with the Federal Court on Tuesday, May 6th, announced the cancellation of the hearing that had been scheduled for May 12th.
The guilty plea means that Ovidio, alias “El Ratón,” waives his right to go to trial in exchange for a recommendation for a reduced sentence.
