A Mexican officer was killed Wednesday during an operation in Tijuana, Baja California, that reportedly targeted a United States fugitive.
Baja California Governor Marina Del Pilar identified the fallen officer as Abigail Esparza Reyes of the Baja California State Citizen Security Force (FESC).
According to Mexican media outlets, the operation took place around 1 p.m. in the Barcelona Residencial neighborhood of Tijuana, in the southwest area of the city.
Several Mexican law enforcement agencies participated in the operation, including the Secretary of National Defense, the National Guard and Tijuana Police.
Officer Esparza Reyes, 33, reportedly died after being shot during the operation, where the American fugitive reportedly barricaded themself inside a residence.
As of Wednesday evening, no suspect has been detained and the name of the fugitive has not been released by officials.
