Andrés Roemer, the alleged Mexican sexual abuser, could be extradited from Israel

The Israeli Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of former Mexican diplomat Andrés Isaac Roemer Slomianski, and he is expected to be extradited to Mexico, an Israeli journalist reported Thursday.

According to Yoav Etiel, a journalist for Walla! News, Judge Yosef Elron stated that Roemer’s “commendable activity on behalf of the State of Israel,” “if any,” as well as his alleged anti-Semitic persecution, do not justify granting him asylum from fear of the law for the crimes he is accused of.”

The judge criticized Roemer for hiding behind “his Judaism” and noted that the Mexican-Israeli “is subject to the law, just like any other criminal who hides in Israel to avoid prosecution.”

Jerusalem Court Rules in Favor of Mexico’s Extradition Request
On March 28, the Mexican Foreign Ministry announced that the Jerusalem Regional Court had ruled in favor of Mexico’s extradition request for Roemer, accused of aggravated rape.

However, Roemer appealed to the Supreme Court. This was the last resort Roemer had to avoid extradition to Mexico, which does not have a specific extradition treaty with Israel.

The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office has five pending arrest warrants for Andrés Roemer, former Mexican ambassador to UNESCO and television personality, for aggravated rape and sexual offenses.
