Chiapas authorities say a judicially authorized operation in Acala led to El Flaco’s arrest and the seizure of a firearm, grenade and suspected drugs.
Chiapas security forces arrested a man known as “El Flaco” in Acala during a judicially authorized operation, recovering a 9-millimeter firearm, suspected drugs and an industrially manufactured fragmentation grenade, according to authorities.
State officials described him as a priority target sought by state and federal agencies over his alleged involvement in violence in the region. He is suspected of leading a local criminal band, although the available accounts do not identify the specific offenses for which he was wanted or establish an affiliation with a named cartel.
The operation followed intelligence gathering and coordination among several security agencies. Participating forces included the Fuerza de Reacción Inmediata Pakal, the state preventive guard and the anti-drug unit, alongside investigators from the Chiapas prosecutor’s office, the Defense Secretariat and the National Guard. The officers acted under a judicial order, but it isn’t clear whether it authorized a search, an arrest or both.
Along with the firearm and grenade, officers reported seizing a magazine, ammunition, two cellphones and multiple packages containing substances resembling narcotics. Authorities did not disclose the ammunition count, the types or quantities of suspected drugs, or laboratory results identifying the substances.
The detainee was turned over to prosecutors, who will investigate his possible involvement in the alleged crimes and determine his legal status. The reports reviewed do not establish that formal charges have been filed or that a judge has ordered him held for trial.
