The audiovisual producer Juan José López Ordóñez and his legal representative, Gerardo Rincón, went to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) to formally present complaints for the criminal conduct of threats and moral damage against the professional soccer player Edson Omar Álvarez Velázquez and his ex-father-in-law, Jonathan Toache Bedolla.
The new legal actions are added to two investigation folders previously initiated for the crimes of kidnapping and fraud. The file includes the claim for the payment of 3.5 million pesos (approximately 200 thousand dollars) corresponding to the production and filming services of a documentary about the trajectory of Machín, recorded for two years in the run-up to the Qatar 2022 Soccer World Cup.
The origin of the litigation dates back to November 3, 2024, when López Ordóñez required Toache Bedolla to deliver real estate located in the San Rafael neighborhood, as well as the liquidation of the audiovisual production that they allegedly intended to market on on-demand streaming platforms.
According to the testimony and formal complaint presented by the victim, after the financial claim, people linked to Toache Bedolla’s entourage intercepted his vehicle at the intersection of Moliere and Homero streets, in the Polanco neighborhood, Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office.
During the illegal deprivation of liberty, which lasted for six hours, the victim was threatened with firearms, blindfolded, physically subdued and injected with unidentified substances while being transported to the municipality of Chalco, State of Mexico.
Jurist Gerardo Rincón specified that the expansion of the kidnapping complaint will include the statement that, during the hours in which López Ordóñez was deprived of liberty, he was coerced under death threats to sign various documents of a legal and patrimonial nature.
For his part, the international footballer issued an official position in which he categorically rejected any connection with the alleged events or with the environment of the accused persons, stating that the accusations are unrelated to his conduct and referring the disclaimer of responsibilities to the competent jurisdictional authorities.
Until now, the capital’s prosecutor’s office keeps the investigation files open for the release of the expert opinions and integration of the evidence presented by the parties, without there being an arrest warrant issued against the athlete.
