The Attorney General’s Office (FGR) obtained conviction sentences of 41 years in prison against Marco Antonio García Simental and/or Mario Alberto Rivera López, alias ‘El Cris’, recognized as the first “pozolero” and member of the Arellano Félix cartel. In addition, José Barraza Benítez, alias “El Chepe,” was sentenced to 26 years in prison.
The convictions are the result of investigations carried out by the agent of the Public Ministry of the Federation (MPF) of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), in coordination with the Specialized Regional Control Prosecutor’s Office (FECOR). Both were sentenced for organized crime.
“El Cris” was found responsible for the crimes of organized crime, operations with resources of illicit origin, carrying a firearm for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces, possession of cartridges and attempted simple homicide. The FGR specified that, within another criminal case, this same person had already been sentenced in 2025.
