The Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) arrested 16 alleged members of the criminal group “Los Ardillos”—including the group’s financial operator—during an inter-agency operation carried out in the rural area of Acapulco de Juárez.
According to a statement from the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA), the operation was conducted on September 5 in coordination with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, and the State Police, following the discovery of the remains of four individuals in the locality of Plan de Lima, in the municipality of Juan R. Escudero.
Operation in Acapulco and the Detainees
The 16 individuals arrested are identified as members of “Los Ardillos,” an organization active in the state of Guerrero. Notably, the group’s financial operator is among those detained, according to the FGE.
Patrols and operations were carried out in the localities of Pablo Galeana, Río Verde, and Xaltianguis, all situated within the municipality of Acapulco de Juárez. SEDENA specified that the operation was a joint effort involving military personnel, the National Guard, the FGE, and the State Police.
The action was taken in response to the murder of a National Guard agent, whose body was found alongside those of three other people in Plan de Lima.
The detainees, along with the seized items, were placed at the disposal of the appropriate judicial authorities to determine their legal status and to continue the investigation.
According to SEDENA, this operation was part of a larger-scale initiative resulting from the inter-agency reinforcement ordered for the region following the discovery of the bodies.
