New Tijuana fast lane border program targets Baja residents who work or study in San Diego—but at a steep monthly cost
The City of Tijuana has begun preregistering border commuters who want access to a “fast lane” at the three major ports of entry in the Tijuana-San Diego region.
The program is aimed at people who live in Baja California but work or go to school north of the border.
Officials in Tijuana say faster crossing times will improve the quality of life for everyone who needs to cross into the U.S. on a daily basis.
Those interested in participating must register at fastlane.tijuana.gob.mx.
People who sign up must show proof of residency south of the border.
They must also show evidence that they work or attend school in California, and they must register their cars along with the names of two references in the U.S.
The program is not free. Interested parties must pay $610 per month for one daily crossing.
For two daily crossings, at any of the three major border crossings in the San Diego-Tijuana region, it will cost almost $900.
A start date for the program has not been announced.
