Jorge Luis Villalón Torres, known as “El Marino”—accused of the 2023 murder of a 16-year-old in Lázaro Cárdenas—died on the night of Saturday, August 15, after being attacked inside the High-Impact Penitentiary Center located in the municipality of Charo, Michoacán.
The incident triggered a major security mobilization within the facility; while prison authorities ruled out a riot, they confirmed the inmate’s death.
According to initial reports, guards found the inmate critically wounded by gunshot; upon attempting to provide medical aid, they confirmed he no longer showed signs of life.
Although preliminary reports indicated gunshot wounds, the prison administration denied the presence of firearms within the facility.
The scene of the incident was secured by prison authorities pending the arrival of the Michoacán State Attorney General’s Office, whose personnel arrived to collect evidence and initiate the necessary legal proceedings.
As of now, authorities have not reported any arrests or identified specific individuals as being directly responsible for the attack.
This event brings an end to the criminal case against Jorge Luis. He had been wanted for the attack on young Alexander—which took place on June 5, 2023, in Lázaro Cárdenas—stemming from a dispute over wanting to earn more money than his employer, Isis Nínive Ortiz Cortés (the mother of the teenager he killed).
The events date back to 2023, when Isis and Jorge Luis began a working relationship after he was hired by a private security company owned by her.
