Two months after Omar Chávez—son of Julio César Chávez—made headlines following his arrest in Culiacán, his ex-partner has broken her silence. She revealed that the charges known at the time—domestic violence and bodily injury—represent only a fraction of what she endured and what was included in the formal complaint filed against him.
Denys Chantal Corona Rodríguez, 27, claims the boxer held her against her will for 13 days at a home in Sinaloa and subjected her to physical abuse; she now fears for her life, feeling threatened into dropping the case.
Corona Rodríguez filed the initial complaint for aggravated domestic violence on March 4, 2025. In the case file, the victim stated that she had been beaten on her face and body. Following this, the boxer was repeatedly summoned by the presiding judge but failed to appear each time, the complainant recounted in an interview with *Reforma*.
It was this pattern of non-compliance that led the judge to modify the precautionary measures. On May 20, 2026, when Omar Chávez arrived for a hearing at the Aguaruto Oral and Adversarial Criminal Justice Center, he was arrested by court security officers and taken to prison.
The following day, May 21, the judge formally bound him over for trial on charges of domestic violence and bodily injury but allowed him to remain at liberty during the proceedings. Images of his reunion with his father, former world champion Julio César Chávez, circulated that same day.
