Federal forces arrested Ricardo Ozuna Tirado, alias ‘El Tío,’ in Mazatlán, Sinaloa. He is the alleged financial operator and one of the main leaders of a criminal cell linked to the Los Chapitos faction of the Sinaloa Cartel.
In the operation, reported this Monday by the Federal Security Cabinet, five other alleged members of the same group were also arrested: Alejandro Coronel Reyes Jr., a U.S. citizen, as well as Marcelo Eduardo Mendoza Ramírez, José Manuel Félix Covarrubias, Jano Alonso López Ruiz, and José Manuel Sosa Carrasco.
Authorities also seized two firearms, magazines, ammunition, approximately $100,000 in cash, cell phones, computers, two vehicles, and two properties.
The 49-year-old, known as “El Tío,” is identified as one of the main leaders and financial operators of a criminal cell of the Los Chapitos cartel in the municipality of La Cruz de Elota, Sinaloa.
The operation stemmed from intelligence and investigative work that identified two properties in the municipality of Mazatlán used for committing crimes. A security perimeter was established, resulting in the arrest of six people.
The operation was led by members of the Mexican Navy, the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), in coordination with the National Intelligence Center (CNI).
